Elton Dean, alto sax, saxello, electric piano; Mike Ratledge, orfan; Hugh Hopper, bass; Robert Wyatt, drums, vocals
One of the last recordings of SM with Wyatt in the Band (being soon replaced by Phil Howard), Virtually is an album recorded live , broadcasted by Radio Bremen, with interpretations of songs from the albums Third and Fourth, where Elton Dean’s evident influence leading the group towards experimental jazz grounds can be clearly seen.

Big Maybelle – The Complete Okeh Sessions 1952-55 (1994)
(this song is not included in the album but it is the only live performance I’ve found online)
ggg
Despite her short-lived career due to drug addiction and health problems, this amazing overlooked Jazz and R&B singer and once pianist, holds true to her position on the top of the list of my all-time favorite singers among Nina Simone, “Big Mama” Thornton, Dina Washington, Ella, Bessie, Aretha, Etta and Billie. Big Maybelle, whose name was given after she was signed by Okeh Records, was a huge influence to Aretha Franklin among others. Billie Holiday once refused to follow her opening act after such a powerful performance. She had hits such as “Gabbin Blues”, “Candy”, “I’ve Got a Feeling” and “96 Tears”. Although being a chartmaker, Maybelle was never able to achieve the stardom her talent deserved.

The Budos Band – The Budos Band II (2007)
jjj
With a very balanced combination of afrobeat, ethio-jazz, latin , funk and jazz , The Budos Band (originally called Los Barbudos) is what you can call, one of the disciples of Fela Kuti and Mulatu Astatke. Even with its undeniable influence, the Budos were very much capable of creating their own sound. Signed by the Brooklyn based label, Daptone Records ( also responsible for releasing the music of great bands such as Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Poets of Rhythm and Menahan Street Band, among others), they return for a second album in 2007 , topping expectations since their self-titled debut in 2005.
